Day 7: Poland dominates WSM 2007
On the last day of this year's WSM competition, Mariusz Pudzianowski managed to take over the title from Phil Pfister for his fourth win.
Car Walk
The first event of the day was the Car Walk. Contestants had to carry a car, weighing 400kg (881lbs), as far as they could in a maximum time of 75 seconds. The finish mark came after 25 meters, so whoever got their in the fastest time, wins this event.
Kevin Nee from the United States started out strong, as he was able to carry the car for 25 meters in 24,09 seconds.
Mark Felix from England managed to do the same, but he only needed 22,18 seconds.After his carry he said: "It was a tough event. The problem is, that you can't see the finish line, so you don't know, how much further you have to go."
Phil Pfister (USA) tried everything he could to reach the podium. He covered the distance in 23,75 seconds.
Top-seeded athletes Terry Hollands,. Sebastian Wenta (Poland) and Mariusz Pudzianowski (Poland) were alse the best in this event. Wenta finished in 20,01 seconds, Hollands in 19,50 seconds and Pudzianowski was finished after 14,62 seconds.
With this effort the Pole secured his fourth title. Asked about his feelings he replied: "I am very happy. This year I showed you, that I am the best. But I want five titles. I will come back next year even stronger."
Atlas Stones
The second event of the day were the Atlas Stones. Dave Ostlund (USA), Hollands and Wenta were the ones putting up the best times.
Pfister needed 20,83 seconds for all five stones and finished fourth in this event.
Ostlund was quick and lifted all five stines in just under 20 seconds at 19,88.
In the last heat of this year's WSM 2007 Terry Hollands and Sebastian Wenta went head to head for the second place in the standings.
Hollands needed 19,58 seconds, just barely slower than Wenta's 18,75. The Pole secured the second place with tha effort letting Hollands finish third.
So the top three of this year's MET-Rx World's Strongest Man competition are as follows.
1: Mariusz Pudzianowski (Poland)
2: Sebastian Wenta (Poland)
3: Terry Hollands (England)
Polish domination in Anaheim this year. Phil Pfister could not repeat his win from last year. We will see if that changes, come 2008.
