" Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a colourless, odourless and non-polluting gas. It is just as essential to life as oxygen and water, and just as pollution free. All living things, whether plants or animals, are made of carbon compounds. Carbon is the building block of life.
The entire chain of carbon-based life starts with plants on land and in the sea absorbing carbon dioxide (CO2) from the air, and through a process called photosynthesis, converting that C02 into plant mass and plant food for the entire animal kingdom. More than 90% of a plant’s dry matter is processed CO2. [1]
Carbon dioxide is entirely beneficial. Increased levels of atmospheric CO2 increase plant growth and plant food for all creatures great and small. [2]
CO2 has no significant or adverse impact on climate.
2. CO2 taxation or carbon trading is much pain for no gain.
It will wreck the economy, make our industries less competitive and drive up the cost of electricity, petrol, food, building materials and all other goods and services. It will lower living standards, but hurt the poor most of all [3]
It will do absolutely nothing to stop climate change [4], but it will divert billions of dollars from more pressing environmental and humanitarian needs. [5]
3. CO2 taxation and carbon trading schemes are an open invitation to corruption and fraud.
By its very nature, an ETS will expose the government to lobbying by interest groups seeking special favours, concessions and exemptions. The government will find it politically impossible not to favour some at the expense of others. The opportunities for evasion, avoidance, special pleading, cheating and fraud will be endless. Where carbon trading schemes have been in operation as in the European Union, there has already been manipulation, cooking the books, corruption and fraud. Too much money and power is at stake for it to be otherwise.[6]
4. Carbon taxation and ETS are a threat to human freedom.
Carbon emissions are involved in every aspect of the human experience – whether that is eating, breathing, thinking, working, playing or dying. Not a thing lives on this planet without either ingesting or emitting carbon. We use carbon to keep us warm, cook our food and light up our homes. All the goods and services we consume produce carbon emissions in the production process. The cows that give us milk and meat produce more carbon emissions than the entire human transport system.
Carbon is so ubiquitous to life that it is not possible to monitor and control carbon emissions without monitoring and controlling every aspect of human existence. It means mass central planning and the creation of a bureaucratic army of carbon regulators, carbon cops, carbon snoops, and carbon narks. A carbon police state, aided and abetted by busy-body activists, will want to poke its nose into the kind of car you drive, the kind of recreational boat you use, and the kind of holiday destinations you prefer. Even the food miles accrued in the transportation of your food from far away places is already a point of vigorous contention. It all constitutes a massive threat to human freedom. [7]
It’s the greatest scam in history
